I was reading in 2 Samuel this morning about David and Bathsheba, and I got to the part about Nathan rebuking David with the story of the rich man and the poor man. The rich man has many cattle and sheep and the poor man has one lamb who he loves and treats like his own child. A traveler comes through town and stops to see the rich man and instead of preparing an animal of his own for the traveler, the rich man takes the lamb from the poor man. The point of the story was that God had given David everything, all the wives he could ever need and yet, David stole the wife of his servant.
This really hit me hard as I was reading it. How many things has the good Lord given me and yet I still ask for more? Why do I not cherish all the wonderful things I have right in front of me instead of searching for something new? My life is truely full, and I need to realize this. I need to live everyday not searching, but serving the Lord, serving my husband, and serving my child. I want to be totally satisfied by my God alone, but it is really hard to give things up that I think satisfy me, but I know they don't. Now, I think I'm starting to ramble. I guess what I'm trying to get at is my heart needs some major improvement. It is not about me or for me, it's for God. Period. He is all I need.
Your humbled servant,
Kristi

Reflections
As I put Griffin in his crib New Year's Eve night I stood there reflecting about the past year. I watched him as he was falling asleep and thought how I wouldn't want to be in any other place but right there. This past year has been full of many challenges and surprises, but in the end every one of them was well worth it. Isn't it wonderful how God works in our lives? As I stood there, I prayed for Griffin, thanking God for this wonderful child He has blessed me with, praying God would give Adam and I the wisdom to be the best parents we can be, and dreaming about the boy and man Griffin is going to grow up to be. I love this stage of his life, but I am so looking forward to seeing what he is going to be like when he grows up, what his interests are and his personality. It is going to be so fun!
I know this new year will also be full of challenges and lots of new things, and I am very excited to see how it goes. I pray that I will not waste any oppurtunity, I will be the best wife and mother that I can be, and most of all that I will continue to grow in my relationship with God. I hope you are having a fantastic year so far!
Thanks for reading!
Oh, and a quick update on Griffin. He still is not sleeping through the night. He likes to sit up and explore his surroundings. He will look at your face and study it for quite awhile and talk to you (this is my favorite development so far). He can follow you with his eyes now. At his 2 month check-up he weighed 13.5 lbs, was 24.5 inches long, and he took his shots like a trooper. He only cried for about 10 seconds and smiled at the nurse. He has found his hands and loves to suck on them creating quite a drooling mess.

CHRISTMAS!!!!!
We, and by we I really mean me, only have one week until we have to be ready for Christmas and our 6 day trek to see family! That means laundry needs to be done, bags need to be packed, presents need to be wrapped, and Christmas cookies need to be baked. Okay let's face it, I'm not going to stress out because I love Christmas! I've gotten all the presents wrapped (I'm not as good as Aunt Jan, but I do enjoy it!) and I'm going to go in a baking frenzy starting on Sunday! I think this year I'm going to bake chocolate drop cookies, peanut butter kiss cookies, fudge, and gingersnaps with my mom when we get to Bismarck! If I have time I would love to bake a pumpkin cheesecake that Adam and I tested out this week that is fantastic!
As I'm busy getting ready for the season, I need to remember the real reason why we are celebrating, and no it's not because I get to bake. God has sent his son, Jesus Christ, into our sinful world to live a perfect life and die for us. There has been no greater gift given. That certainly is a reason to celebrate! I am so thankful that we are able to celebrate Christmas in this country without persecution. I hope you get a chance this Christmas season to remember why we celebrate!
Merry Christmas and thanks for reading!

To Sleep or not to Sleep?
Griffin decides to keep my life very exciting every night. When is he going to wake up? 1:00? 2:00? 3:00? He likes to keep me guessing. Well last night the little stinker didn't decide to fall asleep until midnight, BUT he didn't wake up until 4:30. That's right, I got four and a half whole hours of sleep in a row! Woo hoo! THEN, he decided to sleep until 8:45! I was shocked! Thanks Griffin!
